Do Almonds Lower Cholesterol
There have been multiple studies that have looked at the effect that almonds have on lipids, and the results appear promising. These studies have looked at a wide range of individuals, including those with high cholesterol, normal cholesterol levels, diabetes, and who are obese, consuming anywhere between 20 to 168 g of almonds a day for 4 to 16 weeks. This is roughly equivalent to 1 to 6 handfuls of almonds a day. In some studies, almonds replaced some of the fats consumed in the diet, whereas in other cases, almonds were added to a healthy diet. Almonds used in these studies were either raw, roasted, or supplemented in other healthy foods.
Studies to date have suggested that almond consumption may be associated with reduced cholesterol levels of 3% to 25% and with reduced LDL cholesterol levels by 4% to 35%
Larger studies are required to confirm these promising results.
The effects of almonds on HDL cholesterol vary. While some studies have noted a slight increase in HDL of up to about 4%. other studies have seen no impact on HDL levels. In most studies, triglyceride levels also appear unaffected by almond consumption.

One study in healthy adults showed that eating 66 g of almonds or almond oil every day for 6 weeks reduced their levels of low-density lipoprotein, or bad, cholesterol by 6% and triglycerides by 14%. It also increased their high-density lipoprotein, or good, cholesterol by 6% .
These beneficial changes in the blood lipid profile are associated with a reduced risk of heart disease .
Although about 50% of the calories in almond milk come from fat, it is generally a low fat product and probably doesnt have a significant impact on your blood lipid profile.
Nutritionists believe that vitamin E, along with bioactive plant compounds including polyphenols, are responsible for many of the health benefits of almonds. These compounds have anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties that are good for heart health .

Enriched Almond Milk May Strengthen Your Bones
Dairy products are the richest dietary source of calcium. In contrast, almonds are a poor source of this nutrient.
To make almond milk more similar to real milk, producers often enrich it with calcium. For instance, a cup of commercial almond milk may contain 37% or more of your daily need, depending on the type and brand.
In comparison, the calcium content in a cup of cows milk may contain around 23% of your daily need, depending on the type and brand.
As a result, enriched almond milk is an excellent calcium source for people who dont consume dairy products, such as vegans and those who are intolerant to lactose or allergic to milk.
Bottom line: Producers often enrich almond milk with calcium, making it an excellent source of the nutrient. Regular consumption of enriched almond milk may reduce the risk of osteoporosis among those who dont consume dairy products.

Eating Almonds Regularly May Help Improve Hdl Cholesterol Levels Functionality

Eating almonds on a regular basis may help boost levels of HDL cholesterol while simultaneously improving the way it removes cholesterol from the body, according to researchers.
In a study, researchers compared the levels and function of high-density lipoprotein in people who ate almonds every day, to the HDL levels and function of the same group of people when they ate a muffin instead. The researchers found that while participants were on the almond diet, their HDL levels and functionality improved.
Penny Kris-Etherton, distinguished professor of nutrition at Penn State, said the study, published in the Journal of Nutrition, builds on previous research on the effects of almonds on cholesterol-lowering diets.
“There’s a lot of research out there that shows a diet that includes almonds lowers low-density lipoprotein, or LDL cholesterol, which is a major risk factor for heart disease,” Kris-Etherton said. “But not as much was known about how almonds affect HDL cholesterol, which is considered good cholesterol and helps lower your risk of heart disease.”
An increase in this particular HDL subpopulation is meaningful, Kris-Etherton explained, because the particles have been shown to decrease overall risk of cardiovascular disease.
