Why Real Eggs Win Reason #2: Egg Yolks Contain Critical Natural Nutrition Worth Celebrating Egg Beaters Aren’t Even Worth Their Weight In Confetti

Are the Three Cheese Egg Beaters Three Times as Good?

Our food isn’t just calories . Food is nourishment, and nourishment is all about the nutrients that come with the calories we eat. Naturally.

The amazing, wonderful, miraculous, parade-worthy thing about eggs is the incredible nutrition that’s packed into the yolk. Not only does the yolk contain the bulk of the egg’s bio-available B12, but it also contains choline, which is critical in pregnancy and supports the liver; pre-formed vitamin A, which is amazing for the skin; and biotin, which is critical for skin and hair health. The yolk is also rich in anti-oxidants like lutein and, yup, cholesterol . Cholesterol is also important for hormone function, and it’s a component of every single cell in our bodies.

Dr. Chris Masterjohn, who holds his PhD in Nutritional Sciences says this of the egg yolk:

the slew of nutrients in an egg yolk is so comprehensive that a few a day would offer better insurance than a multi-vitamin.

Check out his post on the incredible egg specifically, the egg yolk here.

Egg Beaters, in contrast, only contain the nutrients that are added AFTER-THE-FACT from lord-knows-where. This is called fortification, and it doesn’t just make Egg Beaters a poor substitute for the Real Thing. It makes them a processed food. See the next item:

*Update: Dr. MasterJohn, or Jam MasterJ, as I like to call him, has just offered up THIS information and visual:

Here’s the sickening visual:

Just One Extra Egg A Day

In a well-designed clinical study published in the leading medical journal The Lancet1, researchers from Harvard Medical School studied the effects of adding just one extra-large egg a day to the regular diets of young, healthy men and women. All of them were lacto-vegetarians .

That one daily jumbo egg increased the subjects dietary cholesterol intake on average from 97 to 418 milligrams per day. After three weeks just three weeks blood cholesterol levels among the men and women had also shot up. Levels of LDL cholesterol rose on average 12%.

Ingestion of egg seems selectively to raise cholesterol and protein in LDL particles in the plasma of free-living normal people, lead author Frank M. Sacks, MD, and colleagues concluded.

Are Eggs Good For You Or Not

My new fav!! Yummy

The egg is standard breakfast fare, but many people may be wondering whether eggs are healthy.

At just 78 calories each, eggs are an efficient, rich source of protein and vitamins. A large egg contains about 6 grams of protein. Eggs also are a good source of other nutrients, including vitamin D and choline .

Egg yolks also can be good for the eyes; they are significant sources of lutein and zeaxanthin, which have been found to reduce the risk of cataracts and macular degeneration, the leading cause of blindness in people 55 and older.

But egg yolks are also known for their cholesterol. A typical large egg contains 186 mg of cholesterol, more than half the amount previously recommended for daily consumption before federal dietary guidelines dropped the numerical goal in 2015, citing a lack of scientific evidence for a specific limit.

The sunny side of eating eggs?

We are probably more embracing of eggs within a heart-healthy dietary pattern than we were 20 years ago, but its still a source of dietary cholesterol, said Jo Ann Carson, professor of clinical nutrition at UT Southwestern Medical Center in Dallas. Eating an egg a day as a part of a healthy diet for healthy individuals is a reasonable thing to do.

A study published in May in the journal Heart found that an egg a day just may keep the doctor away.

What Are Egg Beaters

Eggbeaters are industrially produced substitute products for chicken eggs marketed as a healthier choice due to their no cholesterol content in comparison to a normal egg having 373 mg of cholesterol. The calories are also reduced from 52 to 25 in comparison to egg whites. As a bonus, they also have zero fat content.

They were first introduced in 1972 as a product of Fleischmanns Egg Beaters and were initially sold as a frozen product. In their earlier stages, egg beaters were sold with a little bit of egg yolk. The refrigerated packaging was introduced in the year 1994. People prefer them due to their better shelf life of 90 days and easy portability.

People with heart attack risks are prescribed egg beaters instead of normal eggs owing to no cholesterol content. Egg beaters also come in seven different flavors which are Original, 100% Egg Whites, Garden Vegetable, Cheese & Chives, Southwestern Style, Three Cheese, and Florentine.

To Help Unscramble The Truth Lets Talk A Bit More About Cholesterol

Nutrition 101 : How to Eat Eggs to Lower Cholesterol

When we hear the word cholesterol, it usually refers to one of two things

There is dietary cholesterol, which is the cholesterol we eat. Egg yolks have the most dietary cholesterol of any food. With just one yolk, were swallowing about 200 milligrams of dietary cholesterol. Thats the amount the American Heart Association recommends most of us not exceed for the entire day. For optimal prevention against heart disease, the Pritikin Eating Plan recommends no more than 100 milligrams of dietary cholesterol a day.

Blood, or serum, cholesterol is the amount of cholesterol in our blood. About 85% of the cholesterol in our blood comes from our liver. And heres a really important point: Our liver manufactures all the cholesterol our bodies need.

About 15% of the cholesterol in our blood comes from the food we eat yes, dietary cholesterol. Consistently, research has found that the more dietary cholesterol we eat, the higher our blood cholesterol levels rise, and the greater our risk of heart disease. Thats why its so important to keep a lid on the amount of cholesterol we eat.

Why Real Eggs Win Reason #1: Real Eggs Don’t Cause Clogged Arteries Or Heart Disease

Hey, I hate to focus on the don’t, but let’s be real: most folks eat egg substitutes for fear of the yolk itself. But fear of egg yolks is SO;1984.

The tired old idea that eggs drive health risks due to their cholesterol and sat-fat content is a web of myths and lies that go back just a few decades far LESS time than the thousands of years humans have eaten eggs in great health.

Bottom line is, eggs have a long history in human life. Heart disease, however, does not. The first heart attack on record occurred in the 1920s. In fact, as cholesterol and saturated fat consumption went down in the mid-20th century, and as they were replaced with highly-processed vegetable oils, the incidence of heart disease in the United States went UP.

Note: While the American Medical Association has been forced to admit that eggs ARE an acceptable addition to the diet , they STILL insist on acting all whole-grain-waffle-y about cholesterol. Why? Because the American Medical Association is build on a foundation of lies that float atop a sea of vegetable oil. I touch on the AMA’s shady history in my book.

What Are Egg Whites

Egg white is the transparent, slimy liquid surrounding the yellow-colored yolk. It is also called the albumen or glaire/glair . It is made up of 90% water and 10% of various proteins like albumins, mucoproteins, and globulins.

It is formed from the layers of secretions of the anterior section of the hens oviduct during the passage of the egg. We know! Sounds disgusting for a good tasting food item.

Egg whites contain about 56% of proteins present in a whole egg. Contrary to egg yolk, egg whites contain little to no fat and the carbohydrate content is just 1%.

This may come as a surprise to those who consider egg whites as a great source of only protein but they are used to make vaccines for influenza. Egg whites are also used as fining agents in the clarification and stabilization of wine. The late 1700 also witnessed the use of egg whites to prevent swelling.

Egg whites are named glaire because they were used in the gilding process of books to give that outer cover shine. They were even used as a binding agent in early photography and the prints obtained through this process were called albumen prints.

Doctors recommend at least a single egg in the daily diet to maintain a healthy body. Keep your fingers crossed for the day when it is announced, An egg a day keeps the doctor away..

The best way to accomplish so is to consult a health care provider, ideally a doctor AND a registered dietician, when you suffer from a very high level of blood cholesterol. But you must have a diet with more REAL food if you are like most people. Real food is eggs. In comparison with all the genuine nutrients that you acquire, the price you pay in saturated foods per egg is a true deal.

Egg beaters cant be a solution for very particular individuals, but most eggs a day is a terrific method to pack in a reasonably compact and calorie low package of protein and nutrients . Dont make in a ton of butter or oil, whichever you pick!

Saturated And Trans Fats

Now, its certainly true that dietary cholesterol is not the only thing that raises blood cholesterol.

Saturated and trans fats are spectacularly good at ratcheting up blood cholesterol levels. We get saturated and trans fat from foods like red meat, cheese, and butter, as well as from processed foods, everything from margarine to frozen entrees, that contain ingredients like coconut oil, palm oil, and partially hydrogenated oils.

Lets get back to dietary cholesterol. For decades, scientific research has demonstrated that rising intake of egg yolks, rich in dietary cholesterol, contributes to rising blood cholesterol levels.

Just one extra egg a day can significantly raise your LDL cholesterol.

Here is just a sampling of that research
