Lose Weight With Raisin Bran
Yes! Raisin bran is one of the best sources of fiber and can help you lose weight if you choose to eat it regularly with meals instead of other high-calorie foods such as sweets and fried foods which wont help you lose weight or maintain a healthy lifestyle.
Eating this cereal with a meal that contains fat will allow the body to absorb all the nutrients in the food since it slows down digestion which otherwise would happen quickly due to the lack of fiber content in most foods we eat today.

How To Make Bran Muffins
Start by gathering all of the ingredients.
In a large mixing bowl, cover the bran flakes with the milk of choice, and let it sit for half an hour. This softens the flakes so your finished muffins will be nice and soft.
Line a muffin tin, and preheat your oven to 400 degrees Fahrenheit.
Add all remaining ingredients to the large bowl with the bran flakes and milk, and stir to form a muffin batter.
Portion the batter evenly into the lined muffin tin, and bake on the ovens center rack for 20 minutes or until the muffins have risen and a toothpick inserted into the center of a muffin comes out mostly clean.
Let cool. If you cover them loosely overnight, the muffins are sweeter and have a better texture the next day. Thanks to some of the moisture evaporating, the liners peel off easily the next day too .
Many people believe bran muffins are a good choice to help with weight loss or promoting good digestion and preventing constipation, thanks to the insoluble and soluble fiber.
I just like them because they are delicious and their neutral flavor goes well with sweet or savory breakfast options, from scrambles to smoothies .

Do Cheerios Reduce The Risk Of Heart Disease And High Cholesterol
Cheerios are infamous for their heart healthy claims and for being low in saturated fat and cholesterol. The brand in the past pushed these claims so heavily that in 2009 the FDA had to send a letter asking General Mills to alter Cheerios marketing strategies because of unauthorized health claims and because said claims would mean that Cheerios would fall under the label of an unapproved new drug. Cheerios has since reworked their marketing and health claims into the message that Cheerios CAN be a part of a healthy diet that COULD reduce the risks of heart disease.
It is important to note that part of what allows Cheerios to claim that it can be part of a diet that could reduce the risk of heart disease is the cereals fiber and whole grain content. We already covered the whole grain aspects of Cheerios, and when looking at fiber it appears that ONLY Regular Cheerios, Honey Nut Cheerios, and Yogurt Burst Cheerios contain soluble fiber, with Cheerios having just 1 gram per serving, Honey Nut Cheerios having 0.75 gram per serving, and Yogurt Burst Cheerios with less than 1 gram of soluble fiber.
Concerning insoluble fiber, listed on the boxes as dietary fiber Only Regular Cheerios, Multi Grain Cheerios, Multi-Grain Cheerios Peanut Butter, and Cinnamon Burst have over 2 grams of Dietary Fiber. The remaining 8 out of the 12 varieties are only at an inadequate 2 grams per serving.
Fiber And Cardiovascular Health
The American Heart Association says including fiber, and soluble fiber in particular, in a generally low-fat diet may help reduce risk of heart disease. Soluble fiber also appears to lower LDL cholesterol without lowering HDL, or “good,” cholesterol. Insoluble fiber may not lower cholesterol levels as much, but it has other cardiovascular benefits that include lowering blood pressure and blood-sugar and insulin levels. The 2005 Dietary Guidelines for Americans recommends consuming 14 g of fiber for every 1,000 calories, though most Americans eat a total of 14 g of fiber per day.

Fda: Dont Advertise Cheerios As A Drug
The FDA says Cheerios ads improperly market the cereal as a cholesterol drug.
May 13, 2009 For decades, a sunny yellow box of Cheerios has dominated breakfast tables across the nation. But this morning, the Food and Drug Administration warned the maker of the countrys top-selling cereal to clean up its advertising.
The FDA said ads that can lower your cholesterol 4 percent in six weeks violates the federal Food, Drug and Cosmetic Act.
The federal agency claims the language on the Cheerios box suggests the cereal is designed to prevent or treat heart disease. Regulators say that only FDA-approved drugs are allowed to make such claims.
The FDA warns that if General Mills doesnt correct the violations, it risks having its cheery-looking boxes seized by federal agents right off store shelves.
In a letter to the chairman of General Mills, the FDA warned that the companys marketing tactics cause to be a drug because the product is intended for use in the prevention, mitigation and treatment of disease.
Because of these intended uses, the product is a drug the FDA states. Therefore it may not be legally marketed with the above claims in the United States without an approved new drug application.
The letter claimed Cheerios is misbranded and that a Cheerios Web site, www.wholegrainnation.com, includes unauthorized health claims such as Heart-healthy diets rich in whole grain foods can reduce the risk of heart disease.
Fda Claims Dispute Science Or Semantics
General Mills contended that the fuss is over a disagreement in semantics, not science, and that the health claims on Cheerios have been there for more than two years.
The scientific body of evidence supporting the heart health claim was the basis for FDAs approval of the heart healthy claim, and the clinical study supporting Cheerios cholesterol-lowering benefits is very strong, General Mills spokesman Tom Forsythe said in a statement. The FDA is interested in how the Cheerios cholesterol-lowering information is presented on the Cheerios package and Web site.
We look forward to discussing this with the FDA and to reaching a resolution, the statement said.
Regardless of how it is advertised, nutritional experts told Good Morning America that whole-grain cereals like Cheerios are crucial to a healthy diet.
Whole grains help combat high cholesterol because theyre high in fiber, Health Magazine contributor Samantha Heller said. They have vitamins, minerals, proteins, antioxidants. Theyre really the whole package.
The Cheerios Web site, which offers a section dedicated to heart healthy eating, includes a certification by the American Heart Association for products that meet American Heart Association food criteria for saturated fat and cholesterol for healthy people over age 2.

Do Cheerios Contain Gmos
The most common GMO crops to look out for in the U.S. are Soy, Corn, Cotton, Canola, Sugar Beets, and Papaya. Foods that clearly have these words in their ingredient lists are all at risk of being GMO if they are not certified organic or Non-GMO.
General Mills sources its corn from the United States, where 88% of the crop is genetically modified, and our ingredient breakdown showed that corn-based ingredients are a common ingredient in all Cheerios varieties. While the corn ingredients are easy to spot and flag, some other high GMO risk ingredients that have been bolded are a little more inconspicuous. For example, Vitamin E is in each and every one of the Cheerios products, and is a hidden GMO ingredient that many consumers are unaware of. Vitamin E in Cheerios comes from Mixed Tocopherols which are most commonly derived from soy, corn, or cotton the most extensively genetically engineered crops. For a list of other GMO ingredients that are commonly hidden in processes foods, Non-GMO Shopping Guide has built this highly useful list.
Multi Grain Cheerios are the only Cheerios variety that has just one likely GMO ingredient in its first three ingredients listed. The likely GMO ingredient however is its first-listed and most abundant ingredient: Whole Grain Corn. This Whole Grain Corn is almost certainly genetically modified.
Should You Eat Raisin Bran
While fortified raisin bran can be a good source of various vitamins and minerals, its not the healthiest option overall for an everyday breakfast cereal. Still, it can be a part of a healthy diet as an occasional choice.
If you choose to eat cereal on a regular basis, look for options that are high in fiber and low in sugar. A good baseline is to choose cereals that offer at least 3 grams of fiber and less than 6 grams of sugar per serving.
Its also a good idea to check the serving size and determine whether its a realistic amount of cereal, or if youre likely to consume more than whats listed. If the latter likely applies to you, decide whether its a good addition to your overall healthy diet.
Raisin bran offers several beneficial micronutrients, but its also high in sugar, making it best enjoyed on occasion rather than as a regular breakfast option.

Why Its Important To Lower Your Cholesterol
First, its important to know that your body produces two different types of cholesterol. There is the HDL good cholesterol, which helps to remove other forms of cholesterol in your bloodstream and moves it back to your liver, which then flushes it out of your body. Then theres the LDL bad cholesterol, which can build up from lifestyle factors like an unhealthy diet, lack of exercise, smoking, and being overweight, according to the American Heart Association . High levels of LDL bad cholesterol in your blood vessels can result in an increased risk of coronary heart disease, stroke, peripheral arterial disease, type 2 diabetes, and high blood pressure, according to Cleveland Clinic.
So the key is to produce HDL good cholesterol in your system, which happens through making healthier lifestyle changes, including eating a healthier diet. This happens when you lower your triglycerides, a type of fat in your blood that will elevate your risk of stroke if you have higher concentrations of it. Trans fat and saturated fat are to blame here, which is why eating a healthy complex carb without these fatslike oatmealcan help lower your cholesterol.

There are actually many different types of foods that can lower the levels of cholesterol in your blood stream. However, General Mills has promoted their breakfast cereal, Honey Nut Cheerios, for many years as a means to lower cholesterol as well.
Many people do not necessarily associate a breakfast cereal with a health food, particularly one that is aimed at kids. However, the commercials for Honey Nut Cheerios have been persistent when it comes to insisting that it does indeed lower LDL cholesterol as part of an overall healthy breakfast.
